- Do: Remember this is a business.
- Don't be shy to ask for money.
- Don't do long term care for friends, neighbors or relatives if you can help it. When things go wrong, your relationship can suffer!
- Do ask for help when you need it. If a child has behavior issues, don't be afraid to ask the parents for help. They will be glad you did.
- Don't under charge. In the long run, you might start with more kids, but you are doing a disservice to yourself. Value what you do and charge appropriately.
- Do ask for holiday pay. 99.9% of your full time parents are reimbursed for holiday pay, and you should be too!
- Don't feel pressured to take care of children you aren't bonding with. Always remember that the child's well being should come first and if the child isn't happy, even if you need the money, let the parents know that they need to find a new provider.
- Do remember that your family comes first. If you need time off for your children, husband or significant other, remember your family obligations should always come first.
- Do take care of yourself. Take up exercising, learn relaxation techniques, whatever, just so you can enjoy what you are doing.
- Don't be belittled by anyone for your choice of occupation. Always remember that you are providing an important business. Our hats are off to you for choosing to do child care. Children will be the benefactors, so be proud of your profession!
